Context

Archipelago is an architecture and research practice working across Belgium, France, and Spain. Their approach is rooted in collaboration, rigorous contextual thinking, and a constant attention to place and its inhabitants. With an international presence and a practice that resists conventional categories, they needed a website that reflected their distinctive approach. Coast Agency led the art direction, while Otomoro handled the entire technical development, front-end and back-end, using Sanity.

Challenge

Coast Agency’s art direction set out an ambitious vision: an unconventional navigation structure, a persistent evolving menu, and a dynamic grid system designed to bring rhythm and movement to the experience. Otomoro’s role was to translate this vision into a technically precise and visually seamless website. Development focused on three key areas: navigation architecture, animation systems, and micro-interactions.

Process

The persistent menu and dynamic grid create a fluid navigation experience that keeps the projects at the forefront. Subtle animations reflect Archipelago’s understated, precise approach, while Sanity gives the team full editorial autonomy. The result is a website that serves as a showcase, a research archive, and an experience in its own right.
